The form asked for name, period, first, second, and third choice. Then I could sort the spreadsheet and group them really efficiently. ___________________
only input a term or also include a definition. The activities and games still work the same as a regular Quizlet set. __________________________________________________Each year I have added more and more scaffolding to the assignment, learning as I go. I feel like this year I finally got it right, so I wanted to share. ________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________I teach two classes during the same period this year: Heritage Speakers (13 students) and regular 8th grade Spanish (19 students). I constantly have to find ways to manage teaching two curricula at the same time. Typically I send one group into the hall with independent group while I work with the other group in the room. I run back and forth to check on the hall group, but it's really not ideal and there have been behavior problems. Today was great though and it's all because of the amount of planning I put into thinking about the actual management. I hope this story will help others managing differentiated groups! I am actually embarrassed that I didn't think of this sooner. We have been playing "Around the World" (directions below) in my class for about 10 years and I have been making and printing giant flashcards. What I just realized is that all this time, I could have been using Quizlet. All I had to do was create a set with only pictures and terms (or make a copy of the set I already had and modify it). As a whole class, I project the flashcards, picture side up, and we go through the deck. I can click shuffle on the side, and play again and again! What a HUGE time saver!
While I did not come up with the original concept, I have been involved since the beginning and have been the coordinator for the past two years. What is Day of Giving?
___________________________________________________Are you constantly filling out forms for the social workers and case managers? If you want to bring up a student for support, you need to have the proper documentation to get the ball rolling. I made this simple form that I use to document everything that goes on in my class: behavior issues, parent interactions, and anything else that I think I should have a record of. When it comes time to meet with a parent or administrator, I can just sort the spreadsheet by that child's name and see all my notes in one spot. It has been super helpful so far!
Currently, my 8th graders are studying a unit on their daily routine and hygiene. We have done all the standard vocabulary and grammar activities and well as personalized stories about their own lives and preferences, but so much has been happening in the world related to Spanish-speaking countries and I really wanted to incorporate that into our class while still meeting those vocabulary objectives, so I created this webquest. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________

Here are the guided notes I gave them to complete while watching his videos. That created a lot of extra time for us to have some fun with some interactive skits!
I am happy to report that it was a great success and I am so proud of them for all their efforts! The project ended up taking about 3 weeks to complete. As a quick recap: the students read an article that made them want to support a charity. I suggested that they work in groups to create a pitch deck to persuade the other students in the class to vote for their charity. I provided students with a checklist of items to include in their pitch decks (shown below) and they did the rest! What I loved about this project was that each day turned into a new cross-curricular lesson! Here is a snapshot:
