My 8th graders just finished reading "El Viaje Perdido" and it went really well! It was definitely a stretch for some of them, but after a year of FVR, and some easier class novels, I felt like we were up to the challenge.

We read the first two chapters before I introduced any explicit grammar instruction. It took us about 5 weeks to get through, but admittedly, I stretched it out to get us through the end of the year and you could do it more quickly.
A little bit of feedback from my students
They thought the story was great! They also liked all the activities that we did with it and were proud of themselves for how much they understood. They suggested that I not assign Quizlets as homework because most people did not do them. I still think it was valuable to play the Quizlet games as follow up because it at least exposed them to new words before reading.
